It hosts over 600 researchers, engineers, students and support staff. It has a network of over 200 industry partners and customers worldwide. Tyndall performs breakthrough research in photonics, electronics, micro/nano technology and smart systems to deliver innovative solutions spanning from atoms to systems in application sectors of Communications, Energy, Health and MedTech, Agri-tech and the Environment. Integrated Magnetics Group Tyndall’s Integrated Magnetics Group is widely recognised as a World Leader in the area of Integrated Magnetics for Power Supply in Package (PwrSiP) and Power Supply on Chip (PwrSoC) technology used for integrated low-voltage power management of processors, artificial intelligence (AI) engines, and high-performance SoCs. With over 100 person years of research effort in this field, the group has created a multi-disciplinary skill set for Power Magnetics research which makes it unique within the global Power Electronics research landscape. Over a period of 20 years, Tyndall’s Integrated Magnetics group has demonstrated World-beating results in the area of Integrated Magnetics for On-Silicon and PCB-embedded applications. The group has developed innovative solutions in all aspects of Power Magnetics research, including design, material & process development, micro-nano-fabrication, materials and electrical characterization, packaging, and reliability. The group’s research has had a very strong commercial impact with R&D partnerships, technology transfer and licensing with some of the world’s leading companies in magnetic components, silicon foundries, wafer-level assembly, SoC and electronics systems design. The Integrated Magnetics Group is part of Tyndall’s Micro Nano Systems (MNS) Centre . The group is equally engaged in academic research and industry-sponsored contract research programmes. Consequently, the key objective of the group is to undertake cutting-edge research that will deliver high impact – by generating intellectual property (IP) such as patents, invention disclosures and licenses; by publishing journal articles, white papers, technological position papers and by making public presentations at flagship conferences around the world. Role description The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in our multidisciplinary approach to integrated magnetic device development suitable for emerging PSiP and PwrSoC platforms – from magnetic material specification to device design and fabrication to electrical characterization. The researcher will lead electronic design and simulation activities for integrated magnetic devices by using industry-standard FEM-based simulation tools such as ANSYS Maxwell-3D, HFSS, COMSOL, Cadence-Clarity. The candidate will also spearhead the electrical test of integrated magnetic devices in Tyndall’s recently commissioned state-of-the-art power electronics test laboratory. The researcher will proactively collaborate with other team members in fabricating devices using Tyndall’s micro-nano systems (MNS) wafer fabrication facilities. This position offers excellent career growth potential. It offers great opportunities to influence the entire end-to-end design/development cycle of integrated magnetics and to become an internationally recognized expert in this field in collaboration with world-leading research groups and companies in this emerging space. The candidate is expected to be ambitious, creative, self-motivated, and enhance the efficient and stimulating atmosphere within the multi-disciplinary Integrated Magnetics Group and elsewhere within Tyndall.
