R&D Engineer

The CompanyAn exciting opportunity has arisen with a Galway Medical Device start-up as we partner with them exclusively to hire a R&D Engineer. The successful candidate will provide product and project leadership with a hands-on approach. Working closely with technical and commercial colleagues, you will help to drive the company towards market approval, acceptance, and expansion.The RoleThis role offers the candidate the opportunity to design, manage, grow, and lead within a small organisation which has the ambitions, plans and funding necessary to grow quickly into a new market.This is a full-time, hybrid role that carries with it an attractive package to include market leading salary, a benefits package including options for Pension and Healthcare.Roles and Responsibilities Develop and maintain productive relationships with key clinical advisors.Create innovative implant and tooling designs from surgeon led concepts.Liaise with all stakeholders and the commercial leadership of the company to create design input and output matrices for next generation product designs.Mitigate technical risks and employ best practice concurrent engineering principles for robust design and manufacturability.Design and validate test methods.Development of Design History File (DHF) and Device Master Record (DMR) in accordance with US and European regulatory requirements.Ensure design assurance in all stages of design development, testing and design control activities, ensuring quality assurance considerations and requirements met.Aid in the development and maintenance of the risk management system in lien with ISO14971.Support preparation of FDA, CE, Ethical Committee, and Competent Authority file submissions.Contribute to improvements to the quality system that ensures its suitability, adequacy, and effectiveness.Support process validation activities.Contribute to the company’s IP portfolio with novel concepts for patent filings.Develop and implement programs in conjunction with operations and quality functions which drive continuous improvement in product quality, customer satisfaction and manufacturing effectiveness.Manage development projects in compliance with approved procedures and in adherence to ISO and FDA regulations. Qualifications and Experience Required Engineering/Science degree or equivalent required (Master’s degree qualification preferred).Five years + experience in product design and development, within the medical device environment, orthopaedics experience a plus.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively across departments.Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach.Detail-oriented with a focus on documentation and compliance.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment.SolidWorks modelling and drawing experience.
