Hosted by Tyndall Research Institute ( www.tyndall.ie ), MCCI has a large team of researchers in silicon chip design, at various stages of their careers, from PhD researcher through to Principal Researcher and all are creating world leading, innovative and high impact technologies, which will shape our future lives. Specifically, MCCI’s mission is to carry out industry-driven, excellent research in areas such as Analog Precision Circuits, RF and High Speed Transceivers, Cryogenic CMOS and Integrated Power Systems research. The project provides an exciting opportunity for young aspirants to pursue invaluable IC design, system architecture, test and validation skills using latest CMOS – BiCMOS foundry technologies. Candidates will have great opportunity to work in close collaboration with potential industrial partners and gain international visibility through MCCI-Tyndall. Your work will lay solid foundations in the newly established research group focused on design, implementation, test, and validation of silicon integrated broadband terahertz transceiver SoCs for imaging and sensing. You will present outcomes of your original research in high-impact factor peer-reviewed journals and international conferences. Key Responsibilities Within the research area, RF and High-Speed Transceivers, applicants are sought for fully funded 2 PhD positions developing the silicon integrated terahertz transceivers systems-on-chip for Imaging and Sensing. VJ01-a :The first position is devoted to the development of electronic s ilicon-based terahertz transmitters. VJ-01 b : The second position is devoted to the development of silicon-based terahertz receivers .You will : Design the ICs using latest CMOS – BiCMOS technologies, simulate and experimentally validate the SoC performances, and perform imaging demonstrations using the developed SoC prototypes. Author/co-author peer-reviewed journals. Disseminate results of the research on international, national, and in-house forums. Manage/participate in education and public outreach engagement activities, as required. Ensure all activities are compliant with MCCI processes and the Tyndall Quality Management system. Carry out any additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post. Essential criteria A Bachelor(honours), Irish Masters or equivalent degree in Electrical / Electronics Engineering, Physics or in a related area, completed or close to completion. A good understanding in RF, electromagnetism, analog & digital circuits, and signal processing. Strong interests in IC design and experimental verifications. Good programming knowledge (Python, Matlab or similar). Desirable criteria Experience with IC design tools such as Cadence, Mentor or similar. Experience with electromagnetic tools such as Ansys HFSS, CST or similar. Experience with PCB design tools such as Altium, KiCAD or similar. Diligence, conscientiousness, and strong work ethic. Good communication, both written and oral. Good interpersonal skills. Ability to perform in diverse cultures. The annual stipend is €22,000 pa.
